Sri Rajarajeshwari Peetam is celebrating Sri Varahi Navaratris from 25-Jun-25 to 10-Jul-25.
Goddess Varahi
Goddess Vārāhī is a revered deity in the Sri Vidya tradition, embodying strength and protection. Alongside Rājasyamala, she forms a significant pair of deities associated with Lalitā. While Rājasyamala represents the cooling moon or iḍā nāḍī and the five downward triangles in the Śrī Cakra, Vārāhī embodies the sun energy or piṅgala nāḍī and the four upward triangles in the Śrī Cakra.
Major Manifestations of Vārāhī
Vārāhī in the Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa
Vārāhī, also known as Daṇḍanāthā, is the fierce Commander-in-Chief under Śrī Lalitā Mahā Tripurāsundarī. Born from the flowery arrows of Śrī Lalitā, she symbolizes the ego (ahaṃkāra tattva). Vārāhī’s ferocity ensures the destruction of evil forces and internal enemies that hinder devotees’ progress.
In the Lalitopākhyāna, Vārāhī emerged to defeat Viśukra, the demon Bhandāsura’s Commander-in-Chief. Her chariot, the Kiri Chakra, is a divine vehicle carrying celestial physicians like the Ashwini Devas and Śrī Dhanvantari, the God of Physicians. This association blesses devotees with good health and relief from chronic diseases.
As Daṇḍanāthā, she guides and corrects practitioners, ensuring they remain on the right path. Her boar face signifies her ability to delve deep into karmas, removing obstacles and leading devotees to both spiritual and material success. Those who seek her blessings never leave empty-handed.
Vārāhī in the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa
Vārāhī, the fifth among the eight mother Devīs (Aṣṭamātṛkās), also known as Pañcami, represents controlled courage and fearlessness. According to the Devī Mahātmya, Goddess Durgā created the Mātṛkās to combat demon armies. Vārāhī’s energy combats envy, greed, and lust, reminding us to face challenges head-on with boldness.
