Sharan Navaratri is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights (and ten days) and the tenth day is called as Vijayadashami and is celebrated every year in the autumn. Theoretically, there are four seasonal Navaratri, however, in practice, it is the post-monsoon autumn festival called Sharada or Sharan Navaratri that is the most observed in the honor of the divine feminine Durga Devi. The festival is celebrated in the bright half of the Hindu calendar month Ashweeja, which typically falls in the months of September and October.
Vijayadashami is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the world. Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga pooja remembering goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma.
The deity will take 10 manifestations and respective alankaram / Maha Naivedyam as mentioned below:
