Sri Maha Varahi Devi, a powerful goddess with a boar face, was born from Sri Lalitha’s arrows and led the divine army into battle. She rode a special chariot pulled by 1000 boars, accompanied by various gods and goddesses, including those of medicine. Varahi had different mounts and was praised with twelve names during her march to war. When the enemy used magical weapons, Varahi and her team prayed to Sri Lalitha for help. On the third day, Varahi cleverly used the Liquor Sea to quench the enemy’s thirst and eventually defeated the enemy commander-in-chief with her plough and pestle. Her chariot moved in harmony with the Sri Chakra and Geya Chakra, showcasing the coordinated effort in the divine battle.

Varahi Navaratri Celebrations at SRRP

The Varahi Navaratis, also known as Ashadha Gupta Navaratris, take place during the month of Ashadha (June-July). This nine-day celebration begins on the first day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of Ashadha and continues until the ninth day, holding great significance in the Hindu calendar.

Sri Rajarajeshwari Peetam celebrates these Varahi Navaratis with great devotion and love, celebrating for 16 days and culminating in a grand Chandi Homam, showcasing their dedication to this significant spiritual event. (Note: The usual duration of Varahi Navaratri is 9 days, but Sri Rajarajeshwari Peetam extends the celebration to 16 days)
