Katyayani is the sixth form of Maa Durga. Earlier there used to be a great sage named ‘Katha’. His son was ‘Katya’ maharshi. This Katyagotraja is the world famous maharshi ‘Katyayana’. He worshipped goddess ‘Paramba’ and practiced rigorous penance for many years. It was his wish to be born in his house as the daughter of Goddess Bhagwati or Goddess Durga. Mother Bhagwati accepts his prayer. After some time, the earth will be inflamed with the rapes of a demon named ‘Mahishasura’. To kill this Mahishasura, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara create a goddess with the elements of their respective radiances. She is worshipped first by Maharshi Katyayana. Hence she became known as ‘Katyayani’.
🌷.History:
Another story is that she became the daughter of ‘Katyayana’ Maharshi. She was born on amanta bhadrapada bahula chaturdashi (according to the north Indian purnimanta panchanga tradition, it is asviyuja shuddha chaturdashi). She worshipped Maharishi Katyayana on ashviyuja shukla saptami, ashtami and navami tithis and killed Mahishasura on vijayadashami.
She is said to be an incarnation of Gayatri. Katyayani upasana removes sorrows, fears and doubts. Vedic education is there.
🌻.Practice:
Katyayani Devi is an awesome faladaini. The Bhagavata says that all the Gopis in Gokula worshipped her on the banks of the River Yamuna to get Krishna as pati. She was the head of gokulam. Her form is divine and glorious. The light of her body shines with a golden glow. She has four shoulders. One of her right hands has abhayamudra and the other has a flood seal. She has a sword in one hand and a lotus in the other hand. Simhavahana.
దుర్గా నవ రాత్రులలో ఆరవరోజున కాత్యాయనీ స్వరూపం పూజింపబడుతుంది. ఆ దినాన సాధకుడి మనస్సు ఆజ్ఞా చక్రంలో స్థిరమవుతుంది. యోగసాధనలో ఈ ఆజ్ఞా చక్రం యొక్క స్థానం ప్రముఖమైనది. ఈ చక్రంపై స్థిర మనస్సుగల సాధకుడు తన సర్వస్వమును కాత్యాయనీ దేవి చరణాలలో సమర్పిస్తాడు. పరిపూర్ణంగా ఆత్మసమర్పణము చేసిన భక్తుడికి సహజంగానే కాత్యాయనీ మాత దర్శనం లభిస్తుంది.
ఈ దేవిని భక్తితో సేవించిన వారికి ధర్మ, అర్థ, కామమోక్షాలనే చతుర్విధ పురుషార్థముల ఫలములు లభిస్తాయి. అతడు ఈ లోకంలో అలౌకిక తేజస్సులను, ప్రభావములను పొందగలడు. రోగములు, శోకములు, సంతాపములు, భయము మొదలైనవి అతడినుండి సర్వదా దూరమవుతాయి.
జన్మజన్మాంతరాల పాపాలు నశించటానికి ఈ దేవి ఉపాసనకంటె సులభమైనా, సరళమైన మార్గం మరొకటి లేదు. ఈమెను ఆరాధించేవారు నిరంతరం ఈమె సాన్నిధ్యం నుండీ, పిమ్మట పరమపదప్రాప్తికీ అర్హులవుతారు. కాబట్టి మనము అన్ని విధాలా ఈ తల్లిని శరణుజొచ్చి, ఈమె పూజలందూ, ఉపాసన యందూ తత్పరులము కావాలి.
